ALLI SHARMA
Alli Sharma's work explores identity, class and our relationships with others, often by taking an ambiguous glance back at her own history, unearthing memories to create revealing, gestural paintings.
Class and Englishness come under scrutiny in a series of paintings that spotlight the overlooked women in the kitchen sink films of the 1950s.
Alli Sharma was born in South Shields, and currently lives and works in London. She graduated from Central St Martins College of Art, London with BA Fine Art in 2007. Recent exhibitions include Tainted Love, touring show, Tansition gallery London, 2012; Idle Worship, Centre for Recent Drawing, London N1, 2012; The Perfect Nude, Phoenix Gallery, Exeter and Wimbledon Space, London SW19, 2012; Zoo, Meter Room, Coventry, 2011 and she was Axis Artist of the Month, June 2011.
