ALEX MICHON
The Celluloid Diamanté
In old black and white films, particularly those of the 1930s, it is left to the iridescent sparkle of sequins, chandeliers, moons, stars and lamplights to add an alluring glamour to the visual experience. It is this shimmering which is both celebrated and deconstructed in Michon's series of small black and white Celluloid Diamanté paintings, in which broken glass shards stand in for/define this visual glitz.
Alex Michon studied at Central St Martins, London. Previous exhibitions include: Ornament, Huntergather, London, 2013; Strip, Transition Gallery at Sluice Art Fair, London, 2011; The Count Of Monte Cristo, Lions Den, InFlux, Limerick, Ireland, 2011; The Painting Room, Transition Gallery, London, 2008; Touch and Go – Space Gallery, London, 2003.
